Medicare Compliance Program Workshop
May 21, 2015

In March 2013, the Affordable Care Act mandated that select healthcare providers (including physicians) develop and implement a detailed Medicare Compliance Programto ensure their businesses were compliant with current laws and regulations that govern the Medicare entitlement program. Many in healthcare quickly learned that creating aMedicare Compliance Program was daunting and in the end - quite overwhelming.

Although a new “cottage industry of pre-packaged compliances programs” quickly emerged, it is important to stress, there is NO “one-size-fits-all” formula. Most experts stress that NO pre-packaged program can effectively be implemented for thwarting criminal wrongdoing or cultivating a culture of compliance within a practice. An “off-the-shelf “compliance program does not adequately address the risk areas for which a particular practice may be vulnerable and is in the end – of little value.

With this in mind, POHMS is offering a hand’s-on workshop that includes comprehensive training needed to successfully implement or manage a “customized” Medicare program that achieves ongoing and consistent requirements of ACA and Office of Inspector General (OIGs) requirements and its direct application to your respective place of business. A compliance program doesn’t have to be perfect, but it must be effective, organic — and each practice has the burden of demonstrating its effectiveness to obtain the benefit of reduced any potential wrongdoing/culpability.

In the POHMS workshop, attendees will receive:

Intensive Learning Format – After reviewing germane regulations, the instructor will provide interpretation of the rules and provide a detailed, step-by-step method for implementation including needed procedures/forms that ensure an effective compliance program.

Detailed Review of (7) Core Components - Specifically, Section 6401 of ACA requires healthcare providers establish compliance programs that contain seven “core elements” as a condition of their participation in the federal healthcare programs as stated in the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. Attendees will review all seven components and create personalized “outlines” to address each component.

Small class size – With a smaller group, the workshop will promote interactive activities and allow for detailed question and answer period to ensure optimal learning experience.
